HOMO SAPIENS

The youngest spacefaring civilization in known space, and the most fractured. Humans have never achieved unified governance on any level. Primarily known among other species for destroying their homeworld's biosphere. Humans quickly set up extrasolar colonies after the invention of the TAER Drive. Among the Three Empires, they are tolerated but they are not respected.

Baseline humans possess no innate biological advantages over other spacefaring species. Slower and weaker than [REDACTED], less durable than [REDACTED] under acceleration, less radiation-resistant than [REDACTED]. Their one genuine distinction is neurological compatibility with cybernetic augmentation. Human biology interfaces with machine systems more readily than any other known organic species.

Three major human factions operate in known space. The Earth Colonial Union (ECU) governs Earth and the core colonies, pursuing integration with the Three Empires. The Spacer Guild Coalition (SGC) controls the remotest stations and the most inhospitable colonies, and are known to be fiercely independent. The Corporate Security Alliance (CSA) operates as a parallel power structure across all of human space. The CSA is formed from megacorporations and their private militaries, and possesses governance structures that answer to shareholders alone, rather than to citizens.

Humanity's greatest galactic contribution is not technology or resources. It is narrative. Most other spacefaring species coordinate through biology in some way. Humans coordinate through story. They developed film, music, literature, and argument as survival tools during millennia of internal conflict, and these tools proved extraordinarily potent when encountered by species that had never needed them.
